Sigiriya Rock Fortress is an ancient palace built on a massive 200-meter high rock plateau during the reign of King Kasyapa in the 5th century AD. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is considered one of the best-preserved examples of ancient urban planning and features remarkable frescoes, gardens, and architectural remains.

The climb involves about 1,200 steps and takes approximately 1.5-2 hours. It's moderately challenging but manageable for people with reasonable fitness. The path is well-maintained with railings and rest stops.
Early morning (7:00-9:00 AM) or late afternoon (4:00-6:00 PM) are ideal to avoid the midday heat. The views are spectacular during sunrise and sunset.
There are no official age restrictions, but the climb requires good physical condition. Young children and elderly visitors should assess their fitness level before attempting the climb.
Allow 3-4 hours for the complete experience including the climb, exploring the summit, gardens, and museum. The actual climbing time is about 1.5-2 hours each way.
